1991 - Current Founding Member, Chairman and Executive Director, SHARDI (Shaafi Research & Development Initiatives) Non-governmental, humanitarian organization. The organization has been created by a group of qualified and experienced professionals in 1991, in the absence of public institutions, in order to provide the much needed services to the urban and rural populations in terms of relief and rehabilitation activities as well as the implementation of grass-root level community development programmes.

Research and consultancy services are among the objectives of the Institution.

1992 - 1994 Chairman and founding member of Middle Shabelle Veterinary Association, based in Josher (capital city of the region).

A Somali Veterinary professionals aiming at revitalizing the regional veterinary institution have created the institution, infrastructure and skilled manpower involved in livestock development programmes and related matters, damaged during the civil crisis ever known in the history of Somalia.

Duties: Taught courses in Veterinary Pathology, Surgery and Anesthesiology as well as the related subjects (Reproductive pathology). Supervised graduate students academic progress (Thesis). Diagnosis and therapy of the sick animals brought at the veterinary Hospital of the Faculty, which was also used as a practical teaching for the students.

Research activities:The research area was in the field of veterinary epidemiology, surgery and reproductive pathology as well as the veterinary pharmacology.

CONSULTANCIES/STUDIES

1988 - 1990 Consultant to the Ministry of Livestock, Forestry and Range on the study of the privatization of the veterinary services. Study on the privatization of veterinary services and the veterinary drug importation and distribution.

Consultancy on the analysis, strategies and research methodologies in livestock health policies.

Taught courses of research methodologies to the junior researchers of the Ministry.

1987-1990: Nominated with Presidential Decree as Secretary of a National Committee composed of Senior Veterinarians for the privatization of veterinary services including veterinary drug importation and distribution countrywide.

1983 - 1985: Taught courses for the students of the veterinary training institute (Vocational school for the preparation of qualified veterinary technicians).

Subjects taught: Infectious diseases and meat inspection. Practical training for the students has been undertaken at the slaughterhouses and meat markets of Afgoi town and Mogadishu city.

Consultant to the small- scale dairy farmers, conducting research on small-scale dairy farms in Garas-balley village (Hodan District, Benadir Region), with emphasis on dairy cattle disease control. This includes identifying endo and ectoparasites that may cause decrease or loss in animal production and productivity in the concerned farms. Prescription of the right veterinary drugs for the elimination of the identified causal agents was indicated and best results were obtained.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

1979 - 1980: Farm Manager, Balad University Crop Production & Dairy Farm.

Parastatal farm of 1000 Ha where 50% of the assets was owned by the government in partnership with the private sector and run by a private cooperative.

Duties:
Land preparation activities (bush clearing, ploughing, seedbed preparation etc.)

Digging and rehabilitation of irrigation canals using farm machinery (bulldozers, excavators etc).

Budgeting and assessments of costs of different cropping systems as means of checking field officers who were controlling the farm. Supervision and on job training of the personnel were parts of the duties.

The farm had a dairy cattle component of over a 100 heads. The whole management in terms of animal handling, feeding, veterinary services, improvement in production and productivity, marketing of the products were included in the functions.

Assisting the lecturers, for the provision of the teaching materials, repeating the lectures to make sure the well understanding of the students.

Preparing the laboratory equipment and materials for the practical exercises of the students. Arrangements of the surveys, assessment and field trips for the practical training of the last year students in the farms and livestock centre.

Preparation of the basic research activities, participation of the examination committees.
